The Birth of SandAssist

“I was working in the cabinet shop; working on some faux beams, which required a lot of hand-sanding.  I got so tired of the sanding discs slipping around in my hand, not being able to have control of it.  So, I started running things through my brain; I’m always trying to find solutions to problems, that’s just how my brain works.  I figured if I could just keep it from slipping around in my hand, that would help so much.  I thought, if I just had a double-sided hook material pad, then it wouldn’t slip anymore.  And if it just had some kind of tabs on it, like dog ears, I’d have something to grip to control it better. I reached out to a buddy who works at a shop that does manufacturing and told him my idea.  He got the ball rolling on a die and made some samples for me.  That was 2-3 years ago, and I’ve used one every day since.  It’s very functional, very useful.  I gave a few samples to other carpenters I worked with, and everyone seemed to really like it.  So, in early 2025 my wife and I decided to take the leap and start the patent process and start a business so we could market and sell them.”
